Heading into his Knoxville
Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa) debut last weekend, Australian
Steve Lines was shooting for a strong result when he
contested the annual ‘360’ Knoxville Nationals, but
despite the best plans, things didn’t turn out the way
he had desired.
Running on the second
night of the ‘360’ Knoxville Nationals, Lines had qualified
18th in the 61 car field, and he then followed that
up by finishing his heat race in eighth place.
Due to missing a direct
transfer into the preliminary feature race that night,
Lines took his place in the B-main, and his charge towards
a feature race qualification was wrecked in the opening
turn of the opening lap.
In a crash that totally
destroyed Lines’ # 23 Jeff McCall owned JSM Enterprises
J&J, thankfully the 24-year-old from South Australia
managed to emerge from the crash unscathed.
“We were improving our
speed and confidence as the night wore on, but unfortunately
some stupid driving from a car from deep in the pack
saw me crashed out without even a lap completed,” said
a frustrated Lines who had started the B-main out of
position four.
“It’s a disappointing
and expensive way to end the weekend, and I felt confident
that we could have made the feature race that night
out of the B-main, and that would have put us in good
stead for the following night.”
Lines will have a weekend
off, certainly a good thing as it has given the JSM
Enterprises team time to build up a new car, before
he travels to Lernerville Speedway on Friday night,
August 22 for his first 410 show, followed by Saturday
night (August 23) at Sharon Speedway (Hartford, OH),
and then back at Lernerville Speedway the following
Friday night (August 29).
