Steve Lines has tasted feature race success yet again
in America! On this occasion he powered to the winners
circle last Friday night (July 18) at Crossville Speedway
(Crossville, TN).
On
Friday night at Crossville Speedway Lines took part
in a twin feature races, both over a 20 lap distance,
and his victory came during the second feature race.
After starting from position five, Lines had quickly
worked his way up to third and on the 12th lap, during
a restart, the South Australian shot to the lead, charging
from third to first place with two turns, and from there
was never headed and went on to record a comfortable
victory.
In
a race format that saw a dash and twin feature races,
Lines had finished second in the dash after starting
from position six in the field, and then in feature
race # 1 he greeted the chequered flag in third place
on the podium after holding down second up until the
latter stages of the 20 lap journey.
“It
was an interesting race format at Crossville Speedway
and after feature race # 1 we learned a lot and in feature
race # 2 we were better prepared,” Lines said, who is
driving the # 23 Jeff McCall owned JSM Enterprises ‘360’
powered J&J.

“The
first feature race saw us quick but we were unable to
get to the front, so for the second feature race the
team played around with the setup and we made the right
changes and that allowed us to take victory.”
Lines
also mentioned how tough it has been turning up at tracks
where he knows nothing about either the track or his
rivals.
“With
every track we travel to, we don’t have a lot of information
to fall back on, but with the more time we spend out
on road, the easier it is starting to become,” he said.
“The
locals are not too keen to share their knowledge with
you, and that’s fair enough, and that is just one of
the many challengers you face when you travel to unfamiliar
tracks.”
On
Saturday night (July 19) Lines competed at Volunteer
Speedway (Bulls Gap, TN) and finished the feature race
just off the podium in fourth place. Lines led the 30-lap
feature race early on, but faded in the second half
of the race and finished fourth.
Earlier
in the night at the banked Volunteer Speedway track
Lines placed third in his heat race and then placed
second in the dash.
Lines
has this coming weekend off before he contests the annual
Knoxville ‘360’ Nationals at Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville,
IA) over three nights, July 31 – August 2
